Not everyone is ready to commit to a long-term set of locs and that's perfectly okay. Temporary locs offer the opportunity to experience the look and feel of locs without making a long-term commitment. Whether you're exploring the style for the first time or simply want a change, this service is designed to give you that flexibility.
Book a consultationEvery installation begins with a consultation.
We'll discuss the look you're hoping to achieve, including the length, thickness, colour and style of your temporary locs. I'll also assess your natural hair to make sure it's suitable for the installation and recommend the most appropriate attachment method based on your hair type and lifestyle.
Once we've finalised the details, we'll schedule your appointment.
Every set of extensions is handmade before your appointment. They're created based on the style we discussed during your consultation. This includes the length, thickness, colour, texture and overall finish so your locs are made specifically for you rather than taken from ready-made stock.
Once your extensions are complete, we'll schedule your installation appointment.
Learn more about custom hair extensionsTemporary locs come in a wide variety of styles, allowing you to customise the final look.
Together we'll choose details such as:
Whether you prefer something natural and understated or bold and expressive, we'll create a look that suits your style.
On the day of your appointment, your natural hair is first sectioned. Each temporary loc has a small loop at the top. Your natural hair is passed through this loop, then braided together with the loc extensions using a specific braiding technique. Your own hair holds the loc securely in place, creating a clean, seamless finish that blends naturally.
Because the locs are braided into your hair rather than permanently attached, they can be removed later without locking your natural hair.
Immediately after installation, your temporary locs will feel slightly tighter around the roots as your braided foundation settles.
Within a few days, they'll become more comfortable and move more naturally. Because the locs are pre-made, they'll have an instantly mature appearance from the day they're installed.
Unlike permanent locs, temporary locs won't change or mature over time — they'll continue to look the same throughout the time you wear them.
Temporary locs require little day-to-day maintenance.
Your scalp can still be washed when needed, although I generally recommend focusing on keeping your scalp clean and hydrated rather than washing the locs themselves too frequently.
Keeping your scalp moisturised, protecting your hair while sleeping, and avoiding excessive tension will help keep your installation looking its best.
Temporary locs are designed to be removed.
When you're ready, the extensions can be carefully taken out without permanently locking your natural hair. Your hair can then be washed, detangled and worn naturally or prepared for another protective style.
If you'd prefer, I also offer professional removal to make the process quicker and minimise unnecessary breakage.
Appointment time depends on:
Most installations take 4–8 hours, although larger or more detailed installations may take longer. Please note that the time spent making your custom loc extensions happens before your appointment and isn't included in the installation time.
No. When installed and removed correctly, temporary locs shouldn't damage your natural hair. Like any protective style, they're safest when not worn for longer than recommended and when your scalp is properly cared for.
Most clients comfortably wear temporary locs for 6–8 weeks, although this depends on your hair growth, lifestyle and how well they're cared for.
Yes. Your scalp can still be cleaned while wearing temporary locs. I'll explain the safest way to wash and dry your installation without creating unnecessary frizz.
That depends on the length, thickness and type of locs you choose. During your consultation, I'll help you select an option that's comfortable for your hair and lifestyle.
Absolutely. Temporary locs can be worn in ponytails, buns, half-up styles and many other hairstyles, although it's best to avoid very tight styles immediately after installation.
We’ll discuss the length, colour, style and overall look you have in mind. I’ll guide you through the options and help you choose the right set and approach for your temporary loc installation.
