Every maintenance appointment begins with an assessment of your locs.
I look at your new growth, overall condition, scalp health and any areas that may need extra attention. We can also discuss any concerns you've noticed since your last appointment, such as loose hairs, weak spots, thinning, or changes you'd like to make.
This helps me decide the best approach before we begin.
I use the crochet method for all maintenance appointments. Using a small crochet hook, I carefully weave new growth and loose hairs back into each loc. This helps maintain the shape of your locs while keeping the roots neat and secure.
Depending on your locs, I may also tidy the length, reinforce weak areas, and clean up loose hairs throughout the loc.
Every maintenance session is different because every head of locs grows differently.
If needed, repairs can be carried out during your maintenance appointment.
This may include repairing weak or thinning locs, reattaching broken locs, reinforcing damaged areas, correcting sections, or fixing locs that have become loose over time.
If your locs need more extensive corrective work, we'll discuss the best approach before starting.
Your locs will feel neat, secure and freshly maintained after your appointment.
You will notice a little firmness around the roots for the first day or two, especially if you have a lot of new growth. This is normal and becomes more comfortable as your hair settles.
Because every head of locs is different, the final result will always depend on your hair type, amount of new growth and the current condition of your locs.
Looking after your locs between appointments is just as important as the maintenance itself.
Regular washing, drying your locs thoroughly, separating the roots when needed and occasional palm rolling will help keep your locs healthy between visits.
